Does Blogger Blog Set Up Matter to Search Engines

Nope, it does not. I have just completed four months of research and analysis in preparation for the launch of my newest white paper, “The Tangible Benefits of Blogging”, and found that really the set up is not important.

What is important to search engines is your content and keywords. Whether you use Blogger’s custom FTP blogging or Blogspot with a custom domain, the difference is nearly moot.

Now, there are real reasons why you would want to use custom FTP blogging and real reasons why you would want to use Blogspot, but now you do not have to choose one over the other for real benefits on search engines.

In fact we have found on a head to head comparison of our two blogs, Web-World Watch (custom FTP blog) and Blog-World Watch (Blogspot custom domain blog) that sometimes the post on the Blogspot blog actually appeared in a higher position in the SERPs than our custom FTP blog.

I’ll let you know when I publish my white paper, if you are blogging for search engine and traffic benefits, you will find the paper and case studies very interesting.

Blogger Custom FTP or Blogspot Set Up?

Does it make a difference for search engines what your blog set up is at Blogger? No, it does not. I used to believe that only custom FTP blogging provided quality search engine results, but no longer.

I have just completed over four months of research and analysis on this topic and several others and have found that in some cases a Blogspot based blog will outperform a custom FTP blog. I have also found that if you have multiple services on your website, you may be better served if you are blogging mainly for search engines to have a Blogspot based blog on each individual topic. Great idea, but only if you have the time to blog or pay someone to blog on all of them.

It appears from our research that the topics you have much authoritative content will be able to piggyback on your domain if you are custom FTP blogging, but not by much. So if you want the new Blogger, love widgets, want a quick and easy set up, then regular Blogspot set up is perfect for you.

We are now only recommending custom FTP set up when you want a seamless template with your website, want your blog pages included in your local website search engine results or are blogging on a very narrow topic of services where you have much authoritative content back on your website.

You’ll be able to read the documentation soon, when we post our white paper title “The Tangible Benefits of Blogging.”

Blogging For the Big Bucks???

You hear it all the time, this blog is making thousands of dollars. On my side I hear how can I make money on my blog, I am hoping to make six figures.

Now you may want to comment from your own experience, but from what I have seen blogging is fun and can be profitable as a ghost blogging provider for other websites, but I have not seen any blogs raking in the cash to the tune of six figures.

I do know that a well-trafficked blog can make a decent or at least respectable income from AdSense or really rather the “products” that Google offers as in my case, but I think you really need to be in the “stratosphere” of popularity to be making enough income that you would want to quit your day job and blog full time.

For my part I blog for search engine benefits and for the authority that blogging gives to my website and my business. Blogging is just one of the overall techniques that I use for improving and maintaining my own business’ organic placement. I have made money from my blog, but not enough to really be a major income flow. So if you are blogging for money, well think again – ‘taint going to happen – blog because you love it or because you can see the organic benefit.
