Are You a Quitter on Twitter?

Okay are you? Let’s be honest, a lot of people use Twitter like they use a blog, set up an account and then tweet the first few days and then stop. They just can’t seem to make sense of the application and so drop out becoming a Twitter Quitter.

Well I am here to say that you can make sense of Twitter by using TweetDeck. In fact I don’t recommend any other way to do Twitter now. Don’t waste your time trying to do Tweets from Twitter.com or waste time reading your Twitter page using a browser, it is too much content in one spot.

Although it would be great if TweetDeck instituted some security and completed the security certificates on the application to encourage more people to feel comfortable installing it, I swear by it. I too could not make sense of the volume of information on Twitter until I started to create groups within TweetDeck. Now I see the real power of Twitter and have totally increased my use of the application and am having way more fun using it.

In fact, I am in the process of writing a new white paper on demystifying Twitter for business owners and TweetDeck was the first thing I installed as part of my own research. I even use TweetDeck to update my Facebook profile at the same time. (@LinkedIn – you need to get with the program, you are falling out of the popularity mix on social networking.)

I’ve been watching Ashton Kutcher this last week on Twitter gaining 200,000 new followers in a matter of days to a total of about 1 million. In fact Ashton Kutcher has been so hot using Twitter on the Web that he even has Oprah doing Tweets as of Friday the 17th. Her first tweets were lame, so she totally needs to get with the program, but as with all Twitter newbies, you’ll get the hang of it if you watch and try it all out.

If you like the idea of using Twitter but don’t know what to do or where to start, you will want to subscribe to my monthly e-newsletter so you can read my Twitter article in the May 1st issue.

Twitterati and Twitter-Pros Looking for Your Comments

I am doing a review for my e-newsletter this month on using Twitter for business and marketing. I will be Twittering a lot this month as I check out applications and what works best.

If you have a Twitter application you swear by, a Twitter technique you use for business, or simply want to share your Twitter tips, leave me a comment below. If you leave your name and website, I’ll even quote you and link to your site in my May e-newsletter giving you credit.

For me, I really like Twitter, but only as a fab tool which I have cross linked to all my social media networks. I push out my blog on Twitter, feed by Twitter status update to Facebook, and review Twitter once or Twice a day. I even program Twitter posts. I get asked all the time to Twitter for clients, but won’t. The beauty of Twitter is that micro blogs are written by you not by a Ghost Twit.

I have predicted before, but will do again. I think Google will buy Twitter this year. It is hot and ripe for them to try to use as an ad vehicle for AdWords.

So to all you Twitterati (those who know how to use Twitter and love it) or Twitter-Pros if you prefer that name, let me know what you like and what you use and I’ll check it out and write about you and the application.

Have Twitter Auto-Update Your Status in Facebook

Wow, this was so cool I just have to share it right now. Here the link: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2231777543

This application allows your Twitter updates to be status updates in Facebook. Now you don’t have to login in a million places to update your status. Just do a Tweet with what you are doing and voilà, your Tweet appears as a new status update on Facebook.

Just another reason that I just LOVE Twitter!

Twitter Your Way to Success

Do you have a new website or blog? One of the first questions you may now be asking yourself is how do you get traffic to the site?

Twitter is an excellent vehicle to use to build traffic and create buzz. There are all kinds of Twitter applications that help you to move your Tweets to other venues. I use TwitterFeed to post my blog on Twitter and to post my Tweets on my blog. It is an easy to install widget that goes into your blog template and it works.

I recommend for new website and blog owners that they do a few things to help drive traffic to their new site, here is my short list:

  1. Use Twitter first, it is easy, fast and fun.
  2. Get going with Twitter Feed.
  3. Schedule Tweets on days you don’t do blog posts with Twuffer.
  4. Actively and aggressively work to build your Twitter network.
  5. Get going with Facebook and LinkedIn – these are the big social networking sites.
  6. Consider setting up accounts Plaxo and Xing for social networking.
  7. Do a press release. Yes it is pricey but will get links out there for your website or blog in a hurry.
  8. Start posting on forums and other blogs – not commercials but real comments – make sure to link to your new site. You won’t get search engine organic capital this way, but you may get a bit of traffic.
